Examine implicit bias and challenge the stigmas we, as clinicians, may hold around sex work. Learn how to allow and enable yourself to be more competent practice with clients who do sex work, and clients who see/have seen sex workers.
The course will:
- Provide an overview of diversity in the sex work professions,
- Examine and challenge assumptions and social stigma facing this population contextualized with intersectional marginalization’s, and
- Examine clinical skills relevant to discussing sex work in an individual and relationship therapy setting.
Join us for a lively conversation on Friday, June 7, 2019, 6 pm til 8 pm. Our discussion will consider case examples and clinical work. Sarah Hemphill & Cassandra Damm bring an awareness of epistemological privilege to narrative around marginalized populations. Beverages and light fare included.
Sex Workers Outreach Project Chicago [SWOP-Chicago] is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of current and former sex workers in the Chicago area, on and off of the job. SWOP-Chicago is composed of current and former sex workers — including prostitutes, professional dominants, porn actors, strippers, and sex educators — and our academic and activist allies, working together to ensure that sex workers are allowed healthy and fulfilling labor and lives.
