Morning Session ~ Issues for Clients and Therapists: Counseling Consensually Non-Monogamous Clients

What are the most common versions of consensual non-monogamy (CNM) and how they can align with different relationships and personalities? What types of non-monogamy are less likely to work? What are the issues that clients in CNM relationships often face? Finally, this presentation identifies issues that might arise for therapists who serve CNM clients.  There will be time for reflection on personal and professional experiences that may influence attitudes towards CNM, followed by small group discussion. To close the session, Dr. Sheff will share ways to address therapeutic issues, and open up to large group discussion and questions.

Afternoon Session ~ Distinguishing Between Intimate Partner Violence and Kinky Sex/BDSM

This presentation introduces and explains kink/BDSM, intimate partner violence (IPV) and the important differences between the two and risk factors for IPV. It also explains what kinky relationships and interactions might be like and explores consent.
