About this event
Living with chronic pain means that pain becomes an everyday experience, a part of the self. Kink presents diverse avenues for sexual expression and engaging in pleasure; however, chronic pain and illness can hinder access to these. Through this presentation, I will conceptualise pain through “crip time” and how kink can offer a great spectrum of opportunities for both exploration and play to balance pleasure and pain. Additionally, I will focus on my role as an occupational therapist in addressing sexuality and maximising the client’s engagement in kink-related activities.
After attending this presentation, attendees can:
- Understand how to conceptualise and contextualise chronic pain and illnesses.
- Analyse the challenges and barriers faced by individuals living with chronic pain and illnesses in the kink community.
- Examine the benefits of exploring kink for individuals living with chronic pain.
- Discuss the role of occupational therapists in improving an individual’s engagement in sexuality-related occupations.
- Support networks that are available for individuals at the intersection of chronic conditions and kink, fostering a more inclusive and understanding community.
