Mandie Maurer

Many of the people who come to me have already done a lot of work to understand themselves, but still feel caught or stagnant in difficult emotional or relationship patterns. I work especially with childhood trauma, self-esteem and relationship struggles, emotional overwhelm, and Borderline Personality Disorder. My practice is also affirming of polyamory and ethical nonmonogamy, as well as kink. Your sexuality or relationship structure will not be pathologized. I'm also happy to explore with you how it may intersect with attachment, boundaries, jealousy, shame, or power.

My style is engaged, intuitive, and proactive. Alongside making space to explore what is happening, I offer feedback, teach skills, and help clients find new ways of connecting with themselves and others. My approach largely incorporates Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work, while also bringing in DBT, attachment-based, somatic, and psychodynamic approaches as needed. I began my work as a therapist in Tokyo and have lived in several countries across Asia and Europe. That experience has given me an appreciation for lives and identities that cross cultures, countries, and conventional social boundaries. I provide online individual therapy in Illinois and Michigan.
